INTRO

Airport Futures: from Function to Feeling is the first in a series of reports examining these shifting traveller preferences and what they mean for the future of airports. In this report, we ask: what drives passenger satisfaction? We explore how future airports can foster connection and inclusivity, have a positive impact on our well-being, integrate emerging technologies in meaningful, seamless ways, and enhance the magic of airports through the senses.

PROCESS

After establishing the overall art direction, I systematically developed a variety of layouts to accommodate different types of content and chapters before the final materials were delivered. This approach allowed us to identify layouts that could be easily adapted to the content later on, ensuring a smooth design process. Additionally, it provided a clear overview to confirm that the design style remained cohesive throughout the entire report.

I began by designing the digital version and then transferred the structure to the printed version once the foundational elements were finalized. For the cover, I experimented with various display font combinations to achieve the desired visual impact. We ultimately decided to use the same font for both "From Function" and "To Feeling" in the report title, emphasizing "To Feeling" with a filled color treatment and styling "From Function" with an outline stroke to create visual contrast.

A key feature of the digital version is the progress bar displayed at the bottom of each slide, which highlights the current chapter throughout the reading experience. In contrast, the printed version includes a footer with page numbers and the report title, providing clarity and continuity for readers navigating the hard copy.

RESULT

The final result of the project is a 76-page printed report complemented by a digital version, presenting 12 strategic opportunities to bring the future of airports into the present and test innovative concepts to engage tomorrow's travelers.
